Studio Balcony Cabins

Royal Caribbean "introduced" new (new for this cruise line) cabin category on the Quantum Class: Studio cabins for solo cruisers (no single supplement required).

This is a Confidential review. So these are two comments that you won't see in other cruise ship reviews.

1. The marketing term for this category is "Studio" and we'll follow this label.
But in fact they are NOT studios. A studio means "all the facilities in one", i.e. no separate bathroom. These cabins feature "regular" bathrooms. So they are just small staterooms, not studios.
That's a good news.
There are only 12 cabins of this category on the ship that is less that 0.6% of all cabins.
They are very small: 119 sq. ft. (compare to regular balcony cabins - 198 sq.ft.)
They have less storage space and no sofa.
Cabins are really small.
At the time of writing they are classified as SB.

Note significant difference in balcony sizes

Super deep balcony: 6248, 6648,  7248, 7648
Larger balcony: 6250, 6650, 7250, 7650
Standard balconies: 6252, 6652, 7252, 7652

2. As you already know, the major thing that made Quantum / Anthem public rooms look classy is divided engine uptake.
It is still wide on deck 6 and deck 7. Therefore less space is left for passenger cabins near engine uptakes.
So "studio" cabins are merely a byproduct of the ships planning - a limited area near engine uptakes on decks 6 and 7.
That's why I put "introduced" in quotation marks.
Engine uptakes merge (become narrower) before they rich deck 8.
Therefore cabins on deck 8 and up are regular size.

Studio cabins on deck 6 are close to lifeboats.
But those on deck 7 are real bargain for solo cruisers.
